Define the acceptance criteria before choosing the machine

For reusable or contaminated bottles, a useful specification starts with the bottle condition and the required result. Record visible residue, odour, label adhesive, internal water marks, outside finish, bottle damage and whether the container is suitable for filling, labelling or coding immediately after washing.

No. This guide is about practical cleaning and process evidence. Sterilisation, microbiological validation or regulated hygiene claims need project-specific evidence and should not be assumed from a general washer description.

Only if verified for the actual process. Without first-party test data, the safer approach is to discuss detergent, caustic and temperature requirements during specification.

What should be sent for a bottle washing validation review?

Validation should link the real bottle and contamination population to a repeatable test method and an agreed decision rule. These answers explain where visual checks fit and where more controlled evidence may be needed.

Is visual inspection enough to validate bottle washing?

Visual inspection can be an important bottle-washing check, but it is only enough when it can reliably detect the residue or defect that matters at the agreed acceptance level. Clear, coloured or opaque bottles, transparent films, odour, dissolved residue and internal moisture may require additional observation or testing.

The validation plan should state lighting, viewing angle, bottle rotation, sample size and who makes the decision. Where the risk cannot be seen reliably, the customer should select an appropriate analytical, rinse, microbiological or other method with competent technical support.

How should bottle sampling locations be chosen?

Bottle sampling locations should represent the points where a failure could be introduced or detected: incoming bottles, after label removal, after the main wash, after the final rinse or dry-off, and at the transfer to filling. The exact points depend on the process sequence and the failure being investigated.

Sampling only at the final discharge can show that a bottle failed but not which stage caused the failure. Use labelled samples and time or batch references so results can be traced to machine conditions and water or chemistry changes.
